Supported Living
The Supporting Living service aims to enable vulnerable people to live more independently by providing housing related support.Housing related support services include:
- enabling people to access their correct benefit entitlement, ensuring they have the skills to maintain a tenancy
- advising on home improvements
- assistance to move from short term accommodation into appropriate long term accommodation
- advice regarding household budgeting, especially payment of rent and service charges
- advice and guidance on undertaking essential daily living tasks
- signposting to wellbeing/emotional groups that are appropriate to cultural needs
Supporting People funding cannot be used for some services, such as health or personal care needs. However, individuals who require additional support may benefit from the mental health and wellbeing services offered at our Wellbeing & Recovery Centre, Chorley.
Lancashire Mind currently manages 32 supported living tenancies, via numerous properties around the Chorley area. Whilst Mind remains the managing agents of the properties all accommodations are owned by varying housing associations. Mind works in partnership with the housing associations to ensure quality standards of living are achieved. Each property is partly furnished, with an additional welcome pack offered to all new tenants to ease transition into their new home.
What to expect
You will be allocated a key worker who will be available to work with you between the hours of 9 - 5pm. Your key worker will carry out an assessment of your needs and develop a support package with you based on the Supporting People National Outcomes Framework. The aim of your support packages is to assist you to achieve outcomes in the following areas:
- Economic Wellbeing
- Enjoy & Achieve
- Be Healthy
- Stay Safe
- Make a Positive Contribution
The Supported Living Service also maintains an emergency telephone support service to enable you to seek guidance and support outside of normal working hours.
How to apply/Eligibility
You must have a mental health diagnosis and a clear need for housing related support. You must be eligible to obtain housing benefit or have the funds available to pay for the support and housing costs personally. The Supporting People fund will always pay the full charge for housing related support services for people who receive housing benefit towards their rent.
To find out if you are eligible to apply contact Lancashire Mind. If you are eligible, once you have completed a referral form, a member of the team will contact you to arrange an intake meeting, after this meeting has taken place we can advice you whether or not you have been accepted. Once a vacancy arises, we will then arrange a pre-tenancy meeting and you will be able to move in and take up support.
