The main services being provided at this time are:
1.Drop-in Session - we run a Drop-in Session every Wednesday from 10:00 to 3:00. It is held at the Claremont First Step Community Centre, in North Shore Methodist Church on Dickson Road, Blackpool (downstairs from the old Mind Social Centre). This session is open to anyone from Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre area who feel they would benefit from a relaxed social atmosphere. We provide table games and have a pool table, and there is time to spend chatting with others or speaking to the volunteers. Occasionally, we organise trips out or rambles, which are advertised on posters at the Drop-in. Please contact Sam Wilkinson for more information or simply come along any Wednesday and join in. You will always be made welcome.
2.Volleyball Group – in partnership with Shared Horizons Service User group, we organise a Volleyball Group every Tuesday at 12:30. It is held at the Blackpool Sports Centre, Stanley Park, Blackpool and is open to anyone from Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. You do not have to have any experience to join in, with the emphasis being on having fun and getting some exercise.
3. Art Group – we are now running an Art Group every Tuesday from 10:00 to 12:00. It is held in the Blackpool office at 3 Cookson Street. Art materials are provided. This is a service user led group, for people who wish to have a peaceful space to enjoy being creative. Please ring for more information or call in any Tuesday to see for yourself what the group is all about.
We are currently working hard to develop additional services in Blackpool and the surrounding areas. We are also urgently looking for volunteers to help run our activities and support our work. Our current volunteers opportunities are:
1.Volunteer Co-ordinators for the Drop-In Session – Can you spare a couple of hours on Wednesday to ensure that the group keeps running? If so, then please get in touch. If we have enough volunteers, we can develop a rota, meaning less time commitment for everyone.
2.Walking group – we had several successful walks and trips out last year. Although we no longer have our own minibus, we have access to a larger minibus through the Claremont First Step Centre. We need someone to plan and publicise trips and more experienced minibus drivers who enjoy a ramble.
3.Jumble sale organiser – we raised £1,450.00 last year through our jumble sales. We need some people to take on the task of organising and running the sales, with lots of support and advise, if they are to continue.
4.Administration – we are looking for volunteers to help occasionally with general clerical work at the new office on Cookson Street.
5.Interviewing panels – Lancashire Mind would like to recruit service users to participate in future staff interview panels. Training will be given and all expenses met. This is an important part of our belief that service users must be involved in all aspects of the Association and the services we run, as your experience is one of our most valuable assets
Please get in touch with me if you are able to offer help or want more information about any of these volunteer opportunities. Training will be given as appropriate to your role, and expenses can be repaid.
